Pool Surface Condition Check

Sarasota Pool Refinishing is a guide run by Terragroupe, LLC. We do not resurface pools or do any pool work, and we are not taking requests yet. A licensed pool contractor does this work, and we are lining one up.

The Pool Surface Condition Check asks what you can see and feel at your pool. It shows whether to keep watching, start planning a resurface or ask a licensed contractor to inspect soon. Only an inspection of your own pool confirms the result.

Pool Surface Condition Check

Look at the pool on a bright day with the pump off, then answer each question. The result shows a stage and the answers that counted most. It is a starting point, not a price and not a diagnosis.

How old is the surface?
How does the surface feel?
Is any plaster flaking or peeling?
Stains or blotchy color?
Loose grit or stones (quartz or pebble pools)?
Cracks in the walls or floor?
Does the pool lose more water than you expect?
Algae or water balance problems?

How the score is worked out

The questions follow the signs of a worn pool surface listed in Swimply's 2026 guide 1: rough patches, flaking, stains, loose aggregate, cracks, recurring algae, water loss and hard-to-balance chemistry. Cracks and unexplained water loss carry the most points because Swimply says cracks can be structural and call for an inspection 1, and a new finish does not fix a leak. Surface age counts a little, measured against national lifespan ranges that are not Florida figures 1. The point values are set by judgment. They are not fitted to measured pools, and we will say so here if that changes.

Add the points for your answers, divide by 212 and multiply by 100. Every question needs an answer.

How to read your result

The stage counts the signs you reported, with cracks and water loss weighted most. A low stage means fewer signs, not a promise that the surface is sound. A high stage means there is something to look at, not that the pool has failed.

The check is not a price. This site does not show price figures yet. Compare the finishes and read the signs guide.

What the check cannot tell you

It cannot see your pool. It cannot tell a surface crack from a structural one, or find a leak. Only a licensed contractor's inspection can do that.

It does not ask about salt systems or fill water. Those are good questions for the contractor about water care after a new finish. The license guide shows how to check who you hire.

The weights are set by judgment. We will review them with a licensed pool contractor once one is named, and change the date on this page when we do.
